  1. Cousera and EdX already offer free college courses online, you can pay for a certificate of accomplishment and even take a series of courses with a final project for a degree, but if you simply want to learn the material you can access the same material free.

  2. While ur at it so should cars, houses vacations n super bowl tickets lol Nobody is making some HS senior to go to NYU/UCLA/Univ Boulder Colo. etc outta state without any schaarships and remember, Education debts are life debts, they DONT get washed from bankruptcy and used directly against u when buyin a house debt/income ratio sooo

  3. Joe, how many publicly funded universities have had their tuition EXPLODE over the past 2 decades?!? The tuition money goes to the GOVERNMENT. Now, I realize that it most likely is invested back into the education system, but come on man, when was the last time the government ran anything efficiently?

And let's not pretend that most of this education is benefiting anyone but the recipient of the education, if that is even the case. As someone who has hired several college graduates, among a sea of non graduates, they don't inherently possess qualities that make them any more successful than their non-graduate counterparts. Not only is the education way more expensive than it was 20 years ago, it doesn't seem to have much redeeming value.

If you were to say "I think all medical education should be free;" then I think you're on to something. Let's say we make computer science, engineering, biology, and law education free; there is something you may be able to make a case that everyone benefits.

Business, marketing, and the myriad of other majors should NEVER be free.

  4. I come from a country where collage is free, for us who where born here anyway. I have American friends who will be paying off their uni fees for the bulk of their lives moving forward. I'm all for free education, my only problem with it is that there is a high drop out rate of national students due to the fact people who don't have set direction in life often go to uni (because fuck it, its free so why not?) just to drop out a year in. I think higher education is a privilege, yes. But you do not earn it through having the deepest pockets, you earn it through having the desire to succeed and the highschool grades that reflect that.
