Housing is a NEED not a right.
As an educator I believe it could turn around in one generation. Fund education properly – smaller schools and reinstate vocational programs. 15 year olds boys really like coming to school on the day they have cooking. Put some of the veterans, the mechanics and the welders, to work teaching the skills they were using in their service or listening to students read.(The kids can't read because it's a skill passed one on one and no-one seems to be taking the time.) Look at the Finland model for supporting teachers so they don't burn out so quickly. I think if one state took on the challenge of creating a state of the art education system the results would speak for themselves and others would quickly follow.
