Granite can store heat from the sun, which can then be used to produce electricity or dry food.
Geothermal heat
A technique called enhanced geothermal can harvest heat from deep layers of granite by drilling holes into the rock and using pressurized water to create a reservoir of cracks.
Thermal energy
Granite can be used as a thermal energy storage (TES) material in concentrating solar power plants. Research has shown that granite can withstand thermal cycles, though it may deteriorate within the first five cycles.
