FYI, there's nothing wrong with being double first cousins, per se. Incest would only happen if double first cousins then got together and had kids.
If you are married and you have a sibling who marries your spouse's sibling, then your kids and their kids are double first cousins. It simply means that they are first cousins via both parents. What happened with the Whittakers is double first cousins got together and had kids. That's incest, and the reason for the issues.
