I grew up saying retarded.
In UK in the 70s we had a charity called the "spastic society" lolz…..

i’ll be honest this whole thing is fucking retarded
People started fighting the word retarted because it was more than a word. Historically retarted people were institutionalized, experimented on, and had horrible things done to them. Parents started fighting the word because once it was put on your child’s birth certificate they were usually taken, never allowed to go to school, etc. The history of the disabled community is disgusting. That’s why the word became so taboo.
That said..it’s comedy. It would be more exclusive to not talk about disabled people. Comedians cover race, gender, sexual orientation, and all aspects of humanity so why would this group be so awful that we don’t even joke about it?
