We just need a plastic that degrades naturally in 20 years for sturdy material, 40 for cars, 5 years for bottles/food wrappings. Like paper will degrade and is beneficial to environment.
The main problem is leechables even if it degrades they release chemicals not good for human consumption over time.
Reason we have this problems soda companies likely switch to save either $.01-05 per bottle if that for plastic vs glass.
As gasoline becomes more rare an expensive this may naturally push the balance to not use it for every fucken thing and paper/glass will make a comback. California charges tax on plastic bags… so now I rarely use them or bring my own a very minor inconvinience tbh. Economic incentives can do shift the policy… unfortunately seems those funds don't go to recycling efforts exclusively which would make sense.
