I'd honestly be fine with people being allowed to keep their guns IF we, as a society, started treating guns like cars. Constitutional right or not, everyone on both sides acknowledges that guns have the potential to do a lot of damage depending on the user. Likewise, cars, trucks, and other vehicles also have the potential to do a lot of damage, hence why we force people to pass a driving test before they can legally own or operate one. Different vehicles have different safety standards, which is why there is more than one Class of drivers license. If we implemented a similar system with firearms, where you have to pass an exam of some kind before you could go and purchase a pistol, and another exam on top of that to buy more powerful guns like shotguns etc., then it would not only limit the amount of mentally ill people who could buy a gun, but the gun owners who passed said exams would also be able to call themselves "Responsible gun owners"
Take your kids out of public school, problem solved.
