A young man, so it was said, had appeared in Galilee and there with holy zeal, proclaiming the law in the name of the God whom he had sent, with great power and nobility. At first I feared that his purpose was to inflame the people against the Romans, but soon all such doubts were dispelled. Jesus, a Nazarene, spoke more kindly of the Romans than the Jews generally did. One day as I was passing by a pond in a silo where many people were gathered, I saw a young man in the midst of a large crowd. I was told he was Jesus. I could have easily understood that, because he was so different from his listeners. His hair and beard were the color of gold. He looked about thirty years old.
