  1. First off, the rule is dumb, or at the very least not well defined. Second, Herb is technically correct. As Big John stated, the power isn’t dictating the legality of the move (it’s proven weaker than other elbows), it’s the direction of the strike that the rule is based on; you don’t factor power. So to Herb’s point, the orientation of the fighters has just rotated 90 degrees from a vertical/standing position to a horizontal/on back position. Therefore, even though the orientation of the fighters has moved, the direction/angle of the strike is being thrown in a 12 to 6 motion. Think of it less as a clock on the wall, but rather a clock on the opponents face. As the opponent and you move, the clock moves, but the angle in relation to the clock will always be the same because the clock moves with the opponent
