I knew fast food was bad for you as a kid. Also, it was a treat we had maybe once or twice a month. It was like eating potato chips & ice cream for dinner – I observed early on that the buns tasted like donuts. And fast food remains a blue moon treat to this day. It is NOT an alternative to actual food. And Starbucks lattes, frappes, etc. are – don’t kid yourselves, fat housewives – milkshakes!
I was born in 1960 & was a teen in the he 70’s, in Redmond, WA (where Microsoft came from). When my bff & I were about 13 (1973), we discussed butter vs margarine. I remember my dad (we were all born in Kenosha, WI) always saying something grease is grease &/or gravy is grease. Except he said it funny like “drease” & in a funny voice. Anyway, my friend & I, & our families, only used butter except in like some baking recipes. We decided that there’s no way butter is worse for you than margarine – oil chemically (hydrogen) altered to become solid & taste similar to butter. And for the average amount we consumed & on what food it made so delicious in a way only butter could do, we vowed to only use butter & pity all the suckers who believed the hype & were scared into only using margarine. Nobody in our families had any type of cholesterol or clogged arteries & hearts. So we enjoyed butter even more than if margarine was never invented & there was no fear in using butter. Then one day, our theory was proved to be correct, after not denying ourselves the pleasure of eating real butter our entire lives!
