My opinion is that the Sphinx Temple was built upon what was the highest elevation at that time. I believe that the temple is part of a vast complex of structures that are buried beneath the sands and dirt in that entire area.
Obviously the Sun God was personified as the Lion during the Age of Leo around 12000 years ago.
The worship of the Sun is justified because without it there would be no life. The precession of the equinox being realized by humans made for a complex and beautiful basis for the best religion ever known.
Too bad priests and politicians and many sects didn’t honor this ancient code and screwed it all up for power and control.
