I'm late to this. I say hell no. It's a spectator sport. You wanna win by the rules. Rules that make shit safe so you can keep fighting and keep entrtaining. The fighter stays relatively healthy and improve and fight more. This is not a no holds bared or whatever its a show.
If someone tries to break my knee then don't be surprised when I gouge out your eyeballs with my thumbs.
It is not about how legitimate is, it is about how devastating it could be for someone, for example, if it applies too hard, it could have severe damage and probably an end career injury, which is why so many people don't like that kick.
It's a dirty move. No one is impressed
