Why are the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer? That is true in the church every bit as much as it is true in world.
We need a great rethink in the church, especially in regards to mission.
There are many many millions of Christians without -foood , clothing,shelter,bibles,bible teaching and persecution too.
How we have gone wrong
Doug Batchelor, you are lying through your teeth! TITHING IS OLD TESTAMENT – GIVING IS NEW TESTAMENT! I won't bother quote the Scriptures on GIVING in the NT for you should know it – but you and the Adventist pastors ignore it for you want to keep the gullible followers Tithing!
Whatever happened outside the Bible and is not recorded is irrelevant. What does Noah have to do with Tithing? Noah offered WILLING sacrifices to God after the flood. What does the 7 clean animals have to do with Tithing? That's how you confuse the feeble minded followers.
Abraham gave a tenth of the spoils, WILLINGLY, to the king of Salem. It wasn't God who commanded him to Tithe. Jacob/Israel OFFERED WILLINGLY to give back to God, 10% of all that God gave him. It wasn't God who commanded him to do so. Because of Jacob/Israel being the Father of the Israelites, Tithing became part of the Law given to ISRAEL – Not the Gentile nations.
The tithes collected were given to the Tribe of Levi. The Levites were appointed as priests to minister to Israel. God took them specially to Himself; He was their inheritance! All the 11 Tribes were given land; all except the Levites. Therefore, the tithes formed part or all of their subsistence. There were three (3) types of Tithes, I think, one of which had to be distributed among the poor in Israel.
When the Israelites stopped Tithing as a nation which meant that the Levites were not getting enough to go around; the poor was going hungry, etc; it was then that God sent the Prophet Malachi to preach to the Israelites; the nation of Israel. The Scriptures in Malachi that pastors/churches use – those hungry for "filthy lucre," – was spoken to Israel – not Christians! Malachi 3:8-10 is used to make Christians feel guilty; that is, Christians who do not understand the Bible.
CHRISTIANS ARE NOT ROBBING GOD! IT IS THE PASTORS, THE CHURCHES THAT ARE ROBBING THE FLOCK! THEY MAKE CHRISTIANS FEEL GUILTY!
In Malachi 3:12: What nations that will call Christians blessed? How are Christians going to be a delightsome land? In Verse 13: What words have Christians spoken against God? CHRISTIANS, READ THE BIBLE AND TRY TO UNDERSTAND IT FOR YOURSELVES. There are simple versions of the Bible out there – in simple language that you can better understand! Before I didn't like the KJV; now I prefer it to the simpler versions. Stay away from the Clear Word Bible – for it's far from clear – and it's not a Bible!
By the way: WERE THERE CHRISTIANS IN THE OLD TESTAMENT? NO!! CHRISTIANS ARE FOLLOWERS OF JESUS CHRIST – WHO ARE NAMED AFTER HIM! Another thing, don't let any Pastor mess your brain into thinking that if you don't Tithe, you will not be blessed! I used to Tithe when I didn't know the Word for I believed that I was "robbing God!" When I found out the truth, I stopped – but continued to give like Paul exhorted us to do in 2 Corinthians 9:7. GIVING is also tied to the Old Testament: Exodus 25:2; Deuteronomy 16:17. The HOLY SPIRIT gave Paul the words to say! If Paul says to GIVE WILLINGLY; THEN YOU GIVE WILLINGLY! DON'T LET THESE PASTORS FOOL YOU! GOD WILL DEAL WITH THEM FOR MISLEADING THE SHEEP – HIS SHEEP! Blessings & Peace! 🙏🏾
New Testament mentions nothing on Christians having to pay tithes. Jesus and His disciples never paid tithes neither did they instruct anyone to do so. Paul wrote three quarters of the New Testament and had many opportunities to talk about tithes but he never did! He spoke a lot on giving and as a matter of fact giving is mentioned 176 times in the New Testament- nothing on tithes. So why have Christians been paying tithes then?
Where is tithing taught in the New Testament?There is no scripture whatsoever in the New Testament asking Christians to tithe. When Jesus once referred to the practice, he was talking about Pharisees who were still under the Law of Moses and not about New Testament believers.
Christians ARE NOT under Mosaic law and that includes TITHING So stealing from people through the LIE of Tithing IS NOT OK. Pastors that tell you to TITHE are LIARS, THIEVES AND CHARLATAN. If Jesus and the apostles did not TITHE what would make you think we as Christians SHOULD have to TITHE. JESUS never gave a percent. GIVE WHAT YOU WANT JESUS SAID GIVE FREELY NOT UNDER PRESSURE
tithing is an ancient archaic form of ecclesiastical taxation and i refuse to be subjugated by the ancient interpretations or the oral traditions of ancient Mesopotamian Empires and their surrogates
The subject of the tithing is what I would call "bringing gifts" for the Lord. Bringing tithes and offerings to the storehouse is much safer and more viable than bringing funds to a financial institution. It has more advantages than disadvantages. The beauty of the offertory is that worshippers have to have "golden" opportunities to participate wholesomely in the worship service without the need to stand at a lectern or the pulpit on the altar, facing the congregation. Another unique advantage of "paying" tithes is that it attracts blessings. Some blessings come sooner, and other blessings come later. No matter when they come to me, I am still blessed, because I know that my Redeemer lives. If I had not brought gifts to the church, I would feel excluded as though from a wedding or a party. Tithing is a unique program that was created by Gracious Great God, Himself. If I live through the perilous days to come, I would miss the offertory program sorely. The tithe complements the offering and the offering complements the tithes, like male and female. The "secret" of the blessings that derive from tithing is that our Gracious Great God has His hand in this privilege. Perhaps tithing may have been mentioned frequently in church, but it is an important part of worship that must not be ignored, as people ignore the commandments of the Lord, including the Sabbath day of rest given by our Lord. When I bring gifts to church, I gain a peace of mind better than staying in the house all by myself.💙
