  2. Around 7:25 Rob asks about the difference between the Matthew and Luke genealogies.

I saw this very compelling study https://youtu.be/U3bsAMyRwbw done by NathanH83 where he shows that according to Eusebius, a 4th century historian, these genealogies differ because of something called “Levirate Marriage.”

In his book Ecclesiastical History, Eusebius explains how Jacob and Heli were brothers of the same mother (Estha) but different fathers. Estha was married to Matthan, and they had a son named Jacob, but Matthan died, so Estha remarried outside the family—Levirate marriage didn’t apply in this case, since her husband gave her a child, Jacob. So she remarried a man named Matthat, and their child was named Heli. Jacob now had a little half brother. After Heli grew up and got married, he died before he and his wife had children, so Jacob, his half brother, according to Levirate marriage (Deuteronomy 25:5) “raised up seed” to his brother Heli. In other words, Jacob married Heli’s widow and their first child “Joseph” was Heli’s son according to the “law” but begotten by Jacob in the flesh.

So both men are Joseph’s fathers, and both genealogies in Matthew and Luke are for Joseph and are correct.
