I was working as a systems engineer in 1997 and I remember the day when my boss was in my office and the state of Texas has just made public everyones drivers license on the www. We looked at each other and he said, 'It's over'. They of course eventually stopped doing that but it was the moment we both had that 'oh shit' moment of what the Internet was going to become. An incredibly powerful tool in the hands of monkey's, basically. And what is the number one income generator on the www ? Pornography. The Internet was cool for about a minute when few people were on it…..but in the hands of the masses, it's a giant cesspool of evil. The BIG problem is that it's damaging children doing not just a 'little' 'harm but a great deal of harm. When Facebook came out for example, I signed up for it …again….for about a minute. What I saw was an incredibly dangerous application. And I was right. The bottom line is the Internet did not live up to the dream. Not saying there isn't good stuff. Youtube is the greatest 'how to' manual on the planet. But it's also filled with garbage. The answer is unfortunately, regulation but the question remains, who is the regulator?
