  1. So many errors about microwaves amidst all the good information. 1. microwaves do not vibrate molecules – it rotates them. Rotational entropy (spinning) is the method of heating. So obviously this is a different frequency range from infra-red which does heat by vibrating molecular bonds. 2. microwaves will rotate all molecules (including water) as long as they are not already solid (like the plate he mentions). 3. Food cooks in microwaves because there are MANY molecules in food that are not solid so they rotate. But the rotation is not enough energy to break chemical bonds. Lasagne re-heats well in micowaves because the energy penetrates right through the already cooked food to heat the less cooked food. In a regular oven (hot air), lasagne has to heat from the outside to inside, so it over-cooks rather than re-warms. 4. Cooking bread is a polymerization reaction. Microwave ovens will continue to react the bread molecules, not just boil off the water. 5. Microwaves are at a low band in the energy spectrum so it takes much more energy to harm (cook) humans than we have in microwave ovens OR in cell phones. Don't stand right in front of a microwave antenna of course, but you can live in the neighborhood. 6. The guy with the melted chocolate bar was servicing a microwave antenna that was turned on. Duh. He didn't invent anything. We are getting microwave energy from the sun all the time but it is WAY too weak to hurt us. Hope you read this Neil. Most of my physicist friends don't seem to know this either.

  2. With all the respect, the microwave oven not heating up a empty porcelain plate is ,as far as I'm concerned, B.S….
I believed it, than I've put aa empty, dry plate in the microwave…and I couldn't feel my fingertips for a week!…and, by the way, whenever I reheat coffee, it tastes funny, to say the least…
