  1. They weren’t all atheists in the Soviet Union 🤦‍♂️, in fact that’s literal propaganda people still believed today, bad history at its finest. Yuri himself was an Orthodox Christian, as was an average of 50% of the USSR consistently, and 25% Muslim (Shia and Sunni). Communist states had freedom of religion it just took religion out of government (though not from 1941-1956 where it became part of state) even before revisionist takeover East Germany promoted Christianity, Stalin himself was a Christian as too Engles. Marx’s criticism of religion too is valid, man made religion is false but faith in god is not actually religion. And even then Marx could very well have been a Christian still later on, never said he wasn’t. Great Christian socialist/Marxist/ML/Communist writers like Roland Boer and Lunacharsky and Gorky and Karl Kautsky have some great pieces on this. Often people forget that that the 1917 revolutionaries were oppressed Christians and Muslims by a state that claimed to be Christian but the Russian Empire and the Tsars was a reactionary wannabe Demi-god structure. In fact by 1970 what remained of atheism was very little in the USSR, and at the time many “Christian” countries were persecuting far more Christians than communist states – even today. And it’s well to be noted the since 1989-1992 the tragic infiltration against the consent of the people by the west that caused the end of socialism in the eastern bloc, where today capitalism has destroyed these countries for 30 years we can see that those countries are overwhelmingly Christian or Muslim and still poll very highly among those who lived in a former nation (USSR, Yugoslavia) or when their country was socialist like Romania, and funnily enough capitalism has brought atheism in as since 1992 the Czech Republic has greatly declined in religion and too Estonia, half of what it was was pre-1991-2. And I could go on and on here…
