But the Trump hate is not rational nor is there even an attempt to make it so. I can't stand the guys personality but it's scary to see how easily it has been for his political opposition to whip up millions of people into a blind screeching rage for no reason other than "because trump"

The problem here, Neil, is that the government no longer functions like a traditional government would historically. In the past governments had other interests outside of monetary gain. Governments today are run like over glorified corporations. Their entire purpose is money. They don't even care about clout chasing anymore unless it helps the bottom line.
There used to be a multitude of reasons for a government to pursue something. Now it's just one. That's what happens when you let small hats make your decisions.
Best weapon would be a mace, in any apocalyps. No wear and tear, and doesnt get stuck easily.
