I won’t presume to know your family or your friend group, but I’m willing to bet there’s a decent chance that at least one person you know doesn’t believe that the Earth is curved. Instead, they argue, with either a mountain of plausible-sounding statements or just vague deflections about government secrets and conspiracies, that the Earth is flat. That orbits are an illusion. That astronomy is a lie. That the truth is hidden.
What are you to do, with your science-loving heart and evidence-based thinking? The natural thing, of course, is to argue. To lay it out. The puzzle pieces, one by one. To convince.

Flat Earther: The Earth is flat.
Globe Earther: Prove it!
FE: There are the many laser experiments proving that water is always level over long distances.
GE: Have you not heard of atmospheric refraction?
FE: You mean that mirage thing?
GE: No. What about ships that disappear bottom first?
FE: Perspective because all things at a distance eventually disappear into a point.
GE: But the Earth can be seen to curve.
FE: From side to side?
GE: No away from us in all directions.
FE: Water always seeks its own level.
GE: What about a drop of water or the liquid in a level for crying out loud?
FE: That’s different, and besides, water also rises to eye level.
GE: If I am in an airplane or on a high mountain, the horizon is below my eye level.
FE: That is not true.
GE: I can see the horizon below my line of sight using a leveling app on my smart phone.
FE: That is nonsense. The earth is flat.
GE: The oceans would be empty.
FE: The UN flag and some old maps show Antarctica as an ice wall.
GE: Do you have a picture of the whole thing?
FE: No.
GE: Why not? What about the Cretaceous period when the polar ice caps did not exist?
FE: That is a myth.
GE: What about the edge?
FE: No one has seen the edge, and Antarctica may go on forever.
GE: The Antarctic is a continent, and why hasn’t someone done some exploring to prove it?
FE: The UN’s Antarctic Treaty bans exploration, so we can’t know that for certain.
GE: What about all the people who have explored Antarctica?
FE: Nobody explores Antarctica.
GE: There are stories about them all over the Internet, and the treaty itself can be accessed online.
FE: It’s all lies.
GE: What is beneath the surface of the flat earth?
FE: No one knows.
GE: How do tectonic plates, earthquakes and volcanoes work on the flat earth?
FE: There is extreme pressure beneath the flat earth, and it works much the same as on a globe.
GE: What about the sun and moon?
FE: They circle above the earth, of course!
GE: What keeps them from flying off into space?
FE: There is no space!
GE: What about satellites?
FE: There are no satellites.
GE: What about gravity?
FE: There is no gravity! There is only density and buoyancy.
GE: What about acceleration? Density and buoyancy do not account for it.
FE: There is no acceleration!
GE: What about tides where the water recedes and proceeds?
FE: That is nonsense.
GE: Ok. The sun and moon can’t be as far away on a flat earth as we know they are.
FE: They are actually closer and smaller.
GE: Why can’t we see them all the time on a flat earth?
FE: Perspective!
GE: Wouldn’t the sun’s light cover the entire flat earth?
FE: The sun is like a spotlight.
GE: That means the moon cannot be illumined by the sun.
FE: The moon is self-luminescent!
GE: What about the phases of the moon?
FE: Luminaries can be like that.
GE: What about the four seasons and time zones?
FE: The sun moves between the tropics just like it does in a globe model.
GE: The tropic of Capricorn would be about 70% longer than the tropic of Cancer on a flat earth. What makes the sun slow down for six months then speed up for six months year after year?
FE: Electromagnetism!
GE: What about the solar analemma?
FE: What’s that? Must be too complicated.
GE: What about the other planets?
FE: They are really planetes or wandering stars. They’re not really part of our system.
GE: Why not?
FE: There is a firmament that covers the flat earth!
GE: The Hebrew word that is sometimes translated firmament can also be translated as expanse.
FE: That is wrong!
GE: What about the occasional retrograde motion of the planets?
FE: I already told you, they’re not part of our system, and the flat earth is stationary.
GE: How can the Earth be stationary?
FE: If the flat earth was moving, a helicopter would be able to lift off and wait for its destination to come.
GE: The Earth is a closed system, and our atmosphere moves with the Earth because it is heavy enough to stay put.
FE: The atmosphere would be sucked off by the vacuum.
GE: The atmosphere is large and heavy. It doesn’t work like that. What about aurora borealis and aurora australis?
FE: Ignore them!
GE: Why can’t everyone see the same stars?
FE: Perspective!
GE: Why are there two fixed points one above each pole?
FE: There is no south pole.
GE: But people in the south can see a fixed point over the south pole.
FE: There is an imaginary pole that connects the two points and moves the stars like that.
GE: If the earth is flat with the north pole at the center, how can everyone in the south see the same fixed point?
FE: It is all a conspiracy. There is a distorted view of the skies.
GE: A conspiracy?
FE: Yeah. A big conspiracy, a cover up.
GE: I see, so we have been lied to?
FE: Yeah, no one can trust them.
GE: Trust who?
FE: You know, the people who rule the world, the Freemasons!
GE: Ok.
Its almost like you guys dont beleive we live in the skull of a blue eyed giant named mucumber.. I have the same kind of evidence that we do as flat earthers have about the world being flat
