I personally feel that people will diverge even more at some point. Social media is accelerating information exchange and yet misinformation and manipulation is increasing. It’s seems like there are less and less grey areas due to the way knowledge is being shared. More black and white, at least that’s seems to be the intention of media. In the end the smarter will get smarter and the ignorant even more so. The people whose views are myopic and unaccepting will use information to support there ideals thereby creating a bigger divide. Not sure that’s a good thing in terms of “Evolution”.
