Everybody has a misconception about Lions being the top predator but it is not. Wolves are the creatures that are top of the food chain. Way higher than any creature, including humans.
A lion can only live and survive in a few areas on the planet and if all conditions are perfect. However, wolves can survive in almost any geographic, weather etc conditions and exist in almost every single place in this planet.
Their physical power compared to their size is way way more than lion, tiger, bear etc.
A single adult male lion cannot take down a 500 kilo elk. May be one in million. Lion won't even bother to try it. However, a wary hungry and especially a lone wolf (even a young female) will bloody attack to hunt down anything, without even a hesitation. 70 kilo alpha male wolf takes down a around 1.5 Ton male Buffalo, just with few female running that animal for a while and giving it a few bites on the leg. Then the Alpha male comes and directly grapes the throat and thanks that massive monster within a few minutes.
Bloody 200 to 300 kilo, 8 or 10 lions cannot even do it. May be 1 time in 1000.
Wake the F up, the Gov. wants do keep devastating game to kill the hunting, as hunter give lobbing $$ for gun rights. It's not complicated why the Gov introduced Canadian Grey wolves which are 80% bigger than the wolves that were in the US and with down play their numbers and their impact on game by several times.
