the average person is the most valuable commodity on earth, and there are far fewer of them than the numbers say. Some people see a number on a sign for population and think it must be accurate, but.. it would have to update every day to be accurate. The gov. wants us to think that there's a lot of people because then they get a lot of taxes.

Joe, you missed the part in Conspiracy Theory where it was discovered that Mel Gibson's character was a victim of a government experiment and conspiracy to eliminate people with knowledge of it.
That being said… it was a movie. You are correct, even with all our technology, algorithms, see something say something. There aren't enough people to check all that data and make a determination on what's worth looking into.
Granted the government doesn't help when they either give a poor explanation to something they're doing or claim it's not what it appears to be but won't say what it is. That's how most of the conspiracies get started.
