As a native, growing up on the rez and in my culture….our newer generations want to be immersed in all cultures. We want to be Americans. But I can still be Quileute and honestly…we need non indigenous people to put these damn ppl claiming our history and race in their place. Essentially, that is all we have left. We have served this country too. We ARE unique. We deserve to be able to claim that alone. Our older generations had trust issues, I dont blame them. But when these white and black people hear this BS, please stick up for us. It's not race. We took in Irish and scottish in the Appalachians, we took in run away slaves, we took in black Buffalo soldiers when they disbanded and the list goes on. It's culture. Historically it was culture. Every single tribe and individual is different. We all have completely different cultures.
