I watched Nascar back then and I used to go to the Bristol races. I always thought Dale Jr. drove the old track just like his dad. They took a line around that track that few others did. They would always come up off the line in the middle of the corner in between turn 1 and 2 and then drive back down to the line comming off two. So in the past when Dale Jr. has said he didnt learn much from his dad, i thought thats weird because Dale Sr. Goes around Bristol that way and most people dont. Come to find out the only exception was Bristol.
Despite how much I hated Dale Earnhardt SR as a Driver, he made sure to be a Dad and make sure his kids finished High School. That's being a Father First and foremost
Dale jr went from finding out he was driving the #3 busch car a month before the 1998 daytona 500 to winning the 1998 busch series championship later that november. Absolutely incredible.

He probably learned more about Racing just by sheer exposure to the sport being his son and most people will ever learn

Sounds like Dale senior was a terrible dad. Cool. Glad Dale Jr. managed to turn out the way he did.
