In my opinion the real danger for wildlife is deforestation.
Let's not pretend to have some moral high ground. It's been happening for hundreds of thousands of years and it's how nature works.
What is disgusting is cutting the forest in two to build a road which will kill 1000s of animals per year.
Let's build less roads, run trains which kill 1000s of times less animals per passenger. Let's build fences and wildlife bridges.
I guess a wild boar would prefer spear hunting because he has more chances to survive.

I think that you’re eliminating an entire side of the ethics. Kill effectiveness is obviously a big part of it and only taking shots that you can make.
Personally for me, I find it to be more ethically acceptable to use a hunting method that is more primitive because it means I have to work harder to be an effective hunter, and the prey has a better chance at survival.
At least half my moral stance is a matter of leveling the playing field. Who am I to go out into the woods with the most advanced piece weaponry on the planet in a battle with an animal?
