Joe was so much more defensive of Abby and her POV in this podcast then he was of Sam in hers.
I love Harris, but his conclusion that the US and western powers are not to blame for destabilizing the middle east and turning it mostly fundamental is horrible. The US has been using the middle east as a pawn in political, monetary, military, and resource control ever since the end of the second world war. The region was mostly non fundamental after the war, and with inciting and supporting coups and replacing governments for those more favorable to US foreign and material interest in the region, we incited actual fundamental groups to power (this is exactly what happened in countries like Iran).
Sam Harris is a thoughtful, intelligent American apologist in denial of the moral bankruptcy of US hegemony and the devastation it has caused around the world during its short history.
