  1. This guy is doing a terrible job explaining how hybrids work 1:55:00 ish.

    The parents' genetics are chosen in a way that when they are interbred they consistently produce the desired traits in their immediate offspring. Those offspring's hybrid genetics create high variability that can't be predicted and is almost always less desirable than the hybrid.

    Essentially the first generation are two different pure bred plants, the second generation is a pure hybrid and the third generation is a near random jumble of the first generation's genetics.

    The second generation is what is sold to farmers so that if they tried to save seed and replant they would get a random jumble of genetics.

    Maybe its impossible to make a pure bred plant that would have the desired traits and pass them on to it's offspring but it seems like this might just be a ploy from seed breeders to force farmers to buy seed every year.

    Obviously he knows the process better than I do, I guess he just wasn't properly hearing Joe's questions or something.
