What Steve is basically saying is that an organization is a cult when it has no tolerance for questioning or criticism, internally or externally. Any religious belief that is truly good MUST be able to hold up under criticism or be able to logically debate why it is a religion.
Any organization that says “Shut up! If you ask questions you’re an enemy!” is a tyranny, plain and simple.

I think he has a lot of interesting things to say, but I found it weird towards the end when he said that abuse victims should not cut off contact with abusive FOO. I mean he didn't even say that "it depends." He said it is unhealthy. And when Joe gave the hypothetical dad raping a daughter, even then he said it is unhealthy. I mean, it just felt like in that moment he made himself an authority on what someone should do. Like a cult leader, he advised people to go against their desires, feelings, common sense, and free will. Why didn't he say, "You are free to get therapy and decide what the healthiest choice for your life is?" It shocked me a bit.
