It's kind of ironic because the rule was put into place as part of a response to Martin Luther. Their reasoning was that only a man who was truly devoted to God would even think of giving up sex or a wife. To bad they didn't account for gay Catholics trying to escape marriage
Need to get real apologists on for once to get some balance.

The ignorance of this man is more overwhelming than his hairline…
If priests, more importantly bishops, could marry, the Catholic Church would open a can of worms it shouldn’t open.
The reason priests can’t marry is because they must have only ONE loyalty. To the church.
Once a priest has a family, how many men will have the strength to put the church in front of their own family? Very few.
Yet, bishops are given enourmous amount of power and wealth, the church is the biggest real estate owner in Italy, owning most the palaces and villas around the country. The Holy Sea is one of the richest organizations on earth, some claim the richest in terms of simple wealth. Certainly, the biggest owner of arts and manufacts on earth.
All these things are in the hands of churchmen. What will happen once they start marrying and having children? They will start asking ourself, “what can I leave to my children?”…. And what can they leave? Well…
