Carl Hart, Ph.D., is an associate professor of psychology and psychiatry at Columbia University. He is known for his research in drug abuse and drug addiction. Hart was the first tenured African American professor of sciences at Columbia University.

I really found the podcasts with Dr Carl Hart ….both interesting …and informative … but when you say about someone using drugs every day … and still working , ruining a business …. and having a family etc .. . That's actually called A FUNCTIONING ADDICT …. and can normally be sustained for long periods ( years .. or decades ) …. but ( and not in all cases ) eventually ends up into full addiction .
The analogy …I use …is …. a whirlpool …… at the top your going round …. but as you go further down …. it gets faster …. and faster ( like a manic addicts lifestyle ) …. until the bottom falls out and you're sucked under
Because I ate the sugars I loved as a kid until my mid thirties, I now have diabetes and use a needle to inject insulin every time I eat. I’m a commercially made insulin junky….and when I don’t have my insulin you’d think I was on heroin.
