Tara Ross is another attorney and electoral college expert worthy of study and understanding. The principle of the population electing a president was the "tyranny of the majority " the founders sought to protect against and at the same time, the states, we're legitimate beings with a voice to regulate against populous tyranny. Remember too, Senators were appointed or elected by state legislatures rather than the public. Regarding the electoral college, it protects the Republic from those with interests only in serving the most populous cities, not states, and forces candidates to serve all of the states. It protects the Republic. The final point is we are not a democracy but a constitutional Republic. We elect people to represent us before decision making.
Moderate republicans don't want to get rid of the electoral college because we are the last bastion of sanity in America. Popular vote doesn't need to win because electoral college already takes into account population density. Just more jumbled logic for democrats to try and run everything
The second solution doesn't fix the overweighted representation of a single person in a state with a low population. The +2 added onto the proportional representation of every state needs to be removed.
