  1. In summary, using theories/imagination as a belief basis that hasn’t passed a solid provability test is nothing more than a self-delusion. His attempt to use a Martial Arts analogy to show how this can be harmful is laudable but mostly ineffective because deluding yourself with false beliefs is about feeling good despite reality. Moreover, while reality doesn’t reward self-delusion [such as religion], the human species does reward such self-delusion which provides benefits and self-delusion also helps strengthen the structure of weak minded individuals so it is not beneficial to them to rid themselves of their false beliefs. The issue is that Religion is like paper money as it only has the value one gives to it and as long as it serves a power wielding purpose of humans, people will not be willing to let it go despite that it is only in REALITY paper.

  2. Boghossian and Rogan would like to think that Jiu Jitsu is an evidence based art, and that Jiu Jitsu players are rational and scientific in how they practice, and they focus on what works. But, from what I can see, this is simply not true. Jiu Jitsu practitioners blindly imitate techniques that have long been proven dangerous and ineffective. if you look at the evidence from MMA, it shows that Jiu Jitsu has proven to be poorly conceived and based on techniques that use weak leverage and weak strategy. For example, both the triangle and armbar from guard work well against untrained fighters, but once a fighter or wrestler is trained at basic defense, the techniques become highly risky to even try. They leave you far more vulnerable than only holding guard. In MMA these and over 90% of Jiu Jitsu techniques have been discarded by nearly all MMA fighters because the techniques fail so often and leave you in extremely vulnerable positions. Secondly, if you look at their tournaments, you still see everybody pulling guard and sitting down. Both of these strategies would get you destroyed in an MMA or wrestling contest. Thirdly, their takedown techniques and standup skills are a joke and they've been that way for over 20 years now even though they spend time every class working on it. After 20 years of proof that takedowns and standup escapes are extremely important in MMA and in NoGi, why haven't they changed their practices and improved? Why do all these problems exist in their art even today after over 20 years of MMA "testing"? Very simply, Jiu Jitsu practitioners do not follow the basic principle of keeping their art practical, they blindly ignore the truth and imitate just like the other arts which they like to criticize. They IGNORE the lessons of experience and practicality so easily visible in countless MMA and NoGi matches. Joe Rogan is the best example of this. He has seen more fights than anyone, yet he fails to criticize his own art in an objective way. There are many other failed strategies and techniques in Jiu Jitsu that could be pointed out. These are only a few. So, perhaps they should try to criticize their own art more carefully BEFORE telling other practitioners how they should pay more attention to resistance based testing.
