The Vedas / Upanishads (written over a span of several millennia 30,000 BCE to 2,000 BCE) say that Consciousness is a Primordial Energy (called Brahman meaning The Expanse in Sanskrit) which is the only fundamental thing in the Universe, and everything including matter and various forms of energy are but manifestations of this Primordial Energy. It is indescribable and immeasurable. This is the same energy which gives life force (prana) to a lifeform.
