Joey was right on about the awarding of contracts. The mob would select who would get a large concrete project and the developers thought they were getting the legitimate "low bidder". During the 60's and 70's EVERY union was controlled by the mob; concrete, laborers, carpenters, trucking, cement finishers, re-bar installers, etc. You didn't say " I'm dealing with the mob today", you just went about your business as usual. I ran many jobs then and I can say the workers were hard working and proud of their work.
