Funny how the stories drift with each telling. I am sure I do it, too. Leary’s data on alcoholism did not have the greatest control group. The sample wasn’t huge. But NYU psilocybin trials, which included psychotherapy and trip sessions…
My understanding is that Timothy was not advocating for anyone to drop acid and have a trip that would take you to a predetermined destination. Instead, I believe that he was saying, go ahead and try this and be one with the entire universe and by so doing, there would be no limit to the places that you could go. “COSMIC CONSCIOUSNESS, UNIVERSAL UNITY AND EXPANSION OF THE MIND” Timothy Leary.

I will be totally honest never got why leary is put on a pedestal when Hoffman and Shulgin are so much more significant for psychedelic science than him like without those two there are maybe a dozen psychedelic compounds total today and really nobody is close to shulgin because basically everything not named LSD that's synthetic can be directly or indirectly traced back to shulgin
