I recently started going to AA; since it was founded in the 1930's they've been very welcoming to atheists and agnostics. In the very first edition of the AA "big book" from that decade, they have an entire chapter dedicated to how you can be an atheist or agnostic and still join AA.
A house pet is living a life of slavery? My dogs are trained to go to the door and let me know when they need to go out. If they empty a water bowl, they let me know so I can refill it. They get the best spots on the beds. I am foolish if I think for a second that I have my dogs trained. My dogs have me trained to get up and take them out on their demand. They have me trained to fill up their dog bowls at certain times of the day. They have me trained to rub their bellies when they expose them to me. They have me trained to give them treats for whatever is deemed treat worthy behavior by them. Oh, and they are also pitbulls. I don't believe in an after life. But if I did, it would be our dogs judging us on how well we took care of them, and that would determine the quality of the after life a person gets. I could be wrong about everything I said, oft am.
