Our Criminal Injustice System should be way more focused on restitution than incarceration. Non violent law breakers should be sentenced to making things right with the victim. Do it or go to jail. A multitude of good things would come from this: Defendant has to get job to pay victim. Defendant isn't costing taxpayers 35,000 per year to be in prison. Victim at least gets economic satisfaction. The positive effects of focusing on a restitution based system would be felt in every corner of the justice system.
