  1. Love the homogenous population comment. I'm a teacher in Melbourne and at one of the schools I teach at 93% of the students parents either don't speak English at all or it's a second language. The staff is almost entirely of European heritage and the students almost entirely non European with classes often having no students or only one or two of European heritage. In no way shape or form am I making a value judgement about this I don't care where kids are from and everyone who lives here including the indigenous inhabitants came off a boat at some time in the past but as a nation we are not homogenous at all. Growing up in the 80s we certainly were but those days are long gone. Currently our immigration rate is about 1.6% of our total population per year which certainly puts a strain on our ability to accommodate and assimilate this many as such we are not really a multicultural society more a society of multiple cultures.

  2. Americans talking about Australia is always a cringey conversation.

In terms of things like universal healthcare, most of what we've implemented here is just common sense. We just haven't gobbed down the fear story that if the left give you social healthcare that its the axis of evil and the government will decide everything about you. It works well here and its kinda nice that you arent up for a $50000 bill for a broken arm.

Before any American is critical of anothers social or tax policy they should look in their own backyard. For the richest nation on earth to have the level of social decay they do is shocking. Greatest nation on earth is the catchcry….maps of human poop in the street in San Francisco and Chicago is the reality.

Im really at a loss to understand America's fear of china. Unless they have the ability to overwhealm your military – the dont – then thet are half a world away. Growling about other countries having good relations with china is just plain stupid. They're basically our neighbours here so it makes good economic sense to trade with them and have a good regional relationship. Otherwise its like the people that live on the other side of town saying how you can abd cant relate to the people across the street. It really does seem like the only fear is that chinas economy will be larger than the us at some point. I guess its embarrassing to be dethroned by a once third world country. But that loss pf control over the worlds economies is really their own fault

  3. So many things wrong with this discussion. Furthermore, things in Australia have become a lot more divisive since this discussion. Change of government to more progressive and hence the conservative media has now become more of a wedge politicising every single little thing, same as America
