This woman is so sadly ignorant, not just about Australia, but about history. Once upon time universal healthcare, minimum etc. where not considered “left” they were just mainstream social democratic values. In Australia, these values have been eroded by free market systems.

She makes one trip to Australia & comes out & spouts all the tired old cliches. Australians are all descended from convicts; Australians are all carefree & blissfully ignorant & won't know what hit them when China attacks; Australians are looking towards the USA to save us; Australia is a leftist country because it has universal health care, pensions & a decent minimum wage but on the other hand is more conservative than the US????; the population is so small that Australians can't handle any size crowds; blah blah blah. Was waiting for the bit about all the animals that can kill you or how it's summer at Christmas. And then her genuine shock that Australians could have an intelligent conversation about American politics! Patronising much? Next time she connects her phone to the free wifi at the Starbucks that no Australians go to, she should Google who invented wifi.
Homogenous population? I think 30% of Australia's population is born overseas.
Gee, the indigenous population must've kindly built all the amenities for us poor prisoners to enjoy. What a stereotypical view of Australia. Bet neither have ever been or spend at most 2 weeks there (Sydney mostly).
As we've got compulsive voting we're a lot more politics savvy plus we're avid travellers, we kind of know what's going on most places in the world.
