"We need a big thing that kills allot of people" thanks joe. Hi from 2020.
For a man who talks about history it’s amazing he didn’t push back on Joe’s somewhat ignorant and simplistic view on our government and it’s need to reform. Athens had a pure democracy. What even Greeks of the time knew was that pure democracy becomes slave to the mob. Majority imposing their will on the minority. The founding fathers weren’t stupid and we have not evolved very much in 300 years. We aren’t even smarter statistically than our recent ancestors but rather have made certain technological breakthroughs which others are able to expand on over time. I bring this up because we have this idea that we are just so much more intelligent than our predecessors and that we just know better now which just doesn’t seem to bear out. For example the steam engine was actually invented during Ptolemaic rule over the city of Alexandria yet wasn’t expanded on because of external pressures like slavery making the steam engine less useful to people of the time. All I’m saying is that we should be careful when we start talking of throwing the baby out with the bath water
