People are just poorly educated.
The witches that were burned at the stake weren't the Salem witches. The sad thing to keep in mind here is that the people who think that are telling you that they were never taught about the witch trials in school.
People who weren't taught about the witch trials also were never assigned to read The Lottery…They were never taught about the McCarthy Era….etc.
There are basic gaps in their education that would be necessary for them to understand why democracy is important…how democracy works…why those rightwing policies are incompatible with democracy…etc.
Democracy is the most advanced system of government that a primitive group of people can cobble together. It requires a citizenry that is more educated than Americans.
Right-wingers are actually supposed to lie to you.
In a democracy, you're supposed to elect lefties and prevent rightwing policies from being implemented. Don't be disillusioned because you've been voting for right-wingers. Educate yourself enough to understand that they have to lie to you. Rightwing policies are the political policies that build and stabilize authoritarian/totalitarian regimes. They are stabilized by wall to wall poverty, an ignorant populace, and the use of Machiavellian tools: e.g. bread&circuses, propaganda, scapegoating, etc.
How on earth do you expect them to get elected if they tell you honestly that they plan to disenfranchise you, transfer all of the wealth and power to the ruling class, prevent you and your children from becoming educated, exploit your fear of the other in order to scapegoat innocent people as a distraction, etc.
Right-wingers have to lie. It's a necessity. How else can they get you to vote for them and allow them to dismantle your democracy and transition you to a plutocracy or theocracy or monarchy or fascist state? Wake the F up!
I really wish Joe had a basic civics education.
It's painful to listen to him speak about coming up with a new system or the end of our current system, because he doesn't understand what's happening.
We are an oligarchy in transition to fascism.
The last gasp is the final stages of the destruction of a modern society in America. We are transitioning to the most brutal and oppressive of all rightwing systems of government.
The only antidote for what's happening is a revolution, where the end result is a stable democracy. That's it, and that is impossible from here.
So much optimism is possible through ignorance. If he knew more, it would make a dramatic difference in the quality of his rambling. But, for now, he just sings the lullaby that puts his listeners to sleep while their country is being stolen from them by their rulers.
The psychological profile of people who are on the police force are not what Joe perceives them to be. He thinks they are all earnest actors who are trying to do a heroic job. That is not why they join the police force.
There needs to be psychological evaluations to weed out most of the people who want to be policemen.
It's weird that people can understand that pedophiles flock to jobs where they can have access to children, but they think that policemen flock to that job for good reasons.
The average policemen grew up in a violent home, where at least one of their parents was a completely raging and out of control alcoholic. They want to be policemen, because they want to be the one with all of the power to hold over their victims.
Being on the police force, allows them to have the same sort of out of proportion ability to lord pain and suffering over innocent people as it is for an abusive parent to wield the same over an innocent child.
Policemen are NOT good people.
This police woman likely came from the same kind of home that the other police officers tend to come from. She is likely just killing her daddy over and over again in the world.
I'm not sure that Joe understands Godzilla.
Yes, they could change it to be more of an action movie, but it was never supposed to be that. Godzilla is an anti war movie. It has a theme. The theme would be lost if it made the changes that you want.
The recent version was the one that was the most clear on its theme. The first one was forced to edit out things that made the allegory clearer.
Godzilla is supposed to represent America and its policing of the world.
