Without civics, people don't understand that the presidency is NOT supposed to be a position of "ultimate power".
It is so dangerous for Joe to be miseducating his viewers in this way.
The president has more power than other individuals, but his power is supposed to be checked by the following:
1. two coequal branches of government: i.e. branches equal in power to the presidency
2. a free press: i.e. free to criticize the president with impunity.
3. a citizenry who has the right to free speech, the ability to meet in secret, the ability to organize against him, etc. which allows them to petition the government directly to demand change
These are things that you should have learned by the fifth grade in civics.
Democracy is the most complex system of government created. It takes many years of education in order to understand it. It takes a highly educated populace to maintain a democracy. The misinformation that Joe disseminates destroys the opportunity to regain our representative democracy.
We aren't supposed to be electing rulers to rule for four or eight year periods.
Your obligation as a citizen in a democracy is to fight against rightwing policies and fight for leftist policies. That's your civic duty. That's what you owe to all those who sacrificed over centuries to bring America into the modern world.
Democracies are leftist.
Joe really needs a civics class. He doesn't understand how fascist governments work.
Corporations are more powerful than the citizenry in a fascist government, because they control the government.
We are not a democracy anymore. We are an oligarchy in transition to fascism. The only thing that could stop us, at this point, from becoming a fascist state is a successful revolution. We can never have a successful revolution, because there aren't enough Americans who are educated enough to know and understand how a representative democracy is structure or what's necessary to have one.
Corporations don't have feelings. They are brutal. This is why fascism is the most brutal system of government ever created. Rulers at least have whims and flights of fantasy. Corporations control with the iron fist. They literally just murder everyone who doesn't comply or uses them as slave labor in prisons.
For racists, it's, of course, difficult for them to understand why there would be a campaign against devaluing black lives.
Joe, like so many, has basic difficulty understanding and articulating why it would be important, in a modern society, to ensure that the lives of oppressed minorities be treated with value, especially when it is clear that they aren't being treated as such.
Dr John Sarno is the fucking man, RIP. And to be clear, he never told random people to follow the advice Tom mentions and Joe is worried about. That was his treatment plan for people who had been checked by a dr and diagnosed officially with Tension Myoneural Syndrome(Sarnos name for mindbody pain syndromes).
