What if the missing substance existed at the bottom of unexplored seas. Maybe we are supposed to fully explore our planet before we are able to travel. Kind of like getting 100% in a video game before a secret level unlocks and leads to the next game
He says "the stuff doesn't exist" but technically it does. Black holes are able to suck in light so their force of gravity is greater than the speed of light, so what you would have to do is reproduce whatever is happening there.
