We need to actually get things going well on Earth before attempting to colonize Mars. Doesn't make too much sense to try and improve the habitablity of a +99% dead/hostile planet while we continue to destroy the only place we know of that can support human life without the artificial assistance needed on Mars. That should be a little lower on our list of priorities than preventing causing our own extinction event on Earth
