What he is talking about here, in regards to the pushback from mainstream science, is well documented and it’s called the “Semmelweis effect”, after the Doctor who first hypothesized Germ theory, Ignaz Philipp Semmelweis, long before it was accepted. Anyone interested in how far back this issue goes should look up his life story. He saved thousands of mothers in childbirth by encouraging doctors to perform hand-washing and antiseptic practices and was ridiculed and isolated by the medical community in his time because no one believed his theory. He ended up being committed to an insane asylum where he died of an infection. It’s sad and fascinating.
