I think this issue just requires a change in semantics. Just say that sports are divided by Biological sex. If you consider trans people to be the gender they identify with, then just consider all sports to be co-ed, only divided by the sex you were born as. Sports are competitions of the body, so they should be divided on the basis of bodies, not identity.
It's fine to say that gender identity and physical sex are separate, the mistake people are making is replacing biological sex with gender; believing only one of them can exist.
