Defund the military and end the drug war. It will increase suffering among addicts but it will also reduce inflation and reduce murders. If someone needs the discipline they can join the national guard and they should be assigned to border patrol like how it was for the first 200 years since the founding.
There is a vast, vast difference between between the military and the military industrial complex. We should never forget that the armed forces are a tool of the government. The government in turn is in thrall to the corporations which are the real power in this country. It's been like this ever since the end of WWII. And it keeps getting worse every year. A strong military is necessary but only to defend ourselves with. We have to get out of other countries and get rid of the overseas military bases. We have no right, no jurisdiction, nothing to rationalize our military presence overseas. It goes against everything democracy and freedom stands for and it deeply dishonors those who fought and died in the wars that we needed to be in. I can only think of four: the American Revolution, the Civil War, WWI, and WWII. All of our other wars have been nothing but a waste of life. On all sides! Think about it.
The USA is the country that is closing the distance. Our soldiers are put on flights that last 16 hours just to get to the “enemy.” Nobody is threatening the USA, the USA is threatening everyone else. The military is being abused and should be defunded.
The real budget for the military is flabbergasting, there's the forecasted amount and there is blank check accounts that isn't public for obvious reasons of national security. I'm sure it's just like health care and big pharma when it comes to not knowing the actual cost and the insane markups.
even if we completely abolished the military. literally nothing would happen since we are incredibly hard to invade to the point of impracticality. we have militarily weak neighbors, siberia is too cold and vast to make it to alaska which is vast an cold itself. and we have allies guarding enemies in the pacific and atlantic from invading. the military is a terrorist organization to make war criminals richer.
