  1. reverse engineering simple android apps for dating sites can prove they track and log your GPS location even if GPS is disabled. Though this is not advised as it can be considered an illegal act. I believe they do this "mostly" in case there is a incident with 1 or 2 of the client users within the site. Though they could just be logging and sending to government SC too.

Meetme, POF, Tinder all have GPS logging built into the android application framework! Infact I would say if you use any dating application then its a 85% chance the dating agency site knows your exact location.

And no I do not mean external IP GEOIP tracking, I mean actual GPS tracking they can revial your exact location within 15-40 feet no ISP interaction needed.

  2. Our current problems with data and privacy abuse are so scary and widespread that many people feel like things have to be this way but I don't think we are that hopeless. There have been movements and revolutions in the past which have ended abuses of power and terrible things like slavery child labour etc. The internet has created problems with data abuse but it also holds solutions and has given us the power to unite and share information in a way like never before for example what happened in the arab springs. There are people right now who are working on a really interesting project called Holochain which aims to recreate the internet in a way which allows people to continue to use the internet as it is used today but completely removes the need for 3rd party companies to hold our data. The idea is quite deep and complex but the simplified version is that if we can make the internet fully peer to peer we can hold copies of our own data then host apps ourselves or as a community e.g each person using the app holds a bit of the data or we have multiple options (letting facebook hold the data, holding it ourselves, another company holds it, another user holds it etc) but however the data is held it is the user who chooses what is shared with who. It also gives users the ability to clone current apps and customise/personalise them to process data in the way the user wants. An analogy is it is if the current internet is a hotel service or a taxi service, the internet run on holochain would be air bnb or uber. There is also a lot more to the project and many other projects trying to solve these problems so don't give up hope people the internet brings us JRE and is a great thing.
