The hidden and non-obvious problem with egg farming is that males don't lay eggs, and are therefore useless to the process. Farmers don't put these chicks out to pasture to just hang out – they're quickly and efficiently murdered. Dairy is similar in that to continuously milk, your cows need to be continuously calving and animals that are of no utility can't be supported. Ruthless and efficient elimination is the status quo. I can't claim high ground as I'm in a holding pattern just trying to reliably not eat meat, but please don't fool yourself into thinking that consuming eggs and dairy is cruelty-free because you're not directly eating animals.
