I understand from listening to a person who lived on those streets that 85% is drug addiction and some mental illness. Where u have drugs, u have gangs and if u put up portable toilets, gang members take them over. Next suggestion!
Late to the party, I know, but listen closely. Tech is to blame..when tech moved in, the leaders of the cities in the bay area lost their mind. They allowed people from tech to move in and kick people out who lived here for years. All the homeless ain't crazy, out of work, and criminals…the way they allowed tech to take over, now if you make under 100k a year, you're low income. That's only here, and it's only because the leaders allowed Google, Apple, and Facebook to run all over them (and any other startup that came after). It's a sad truth that until they get a hold on tech, this problem will continue. Everybody can't work there, yet everybody pays for everything else here like they do..highest gas in the nation, high food, ridiculous taxes and fees..yet the richest residents don't get taxed. Tech pays little to no taxes. Plus they caused some of the worst traffic in the nation. They just keep cramming people in here. Google's building a new campus in San Jose. You know what that means? More people from out of state with high salaries to put more people out on the street. More overcrowding, more taxes, higher income (for them), more middle class living in cars because unfortunately we love a city that doesn't love us back.
Just like rich Republicans say feed the poor to the dogs then feed the dogs to the poor. Problem solved.
Homelessness in America is a choice.
They want to be there.
They don't want to leave the streets.
I don't feel sorry for them at all.
I was pooping in the street of SF before it was cool
